Finally making her debut in the loft @ Foleys as per the postponed date of her ‘On A Mission’ Tour in March, Pure M 2018 Nominee Katie Gallagher is on a mission herself this summer with numerous gigs, festival appearances and radio interviews nationwide to continually showcase her growing song writing talent and open personality.

Katie has steadily become a rising star to acknowledge, over the last 2 years of her blooming music career.  From headlining solo gigs in her own right to supporting credible artists such as American chart topping duo Underhill Rose and Cork’s very own folk stalwart Mick Flannery, this Ballymahon native is proving her sturdy resolve as a force to be reckoned with.

Under the banner of folk-pop she also displays many other genres that influence her song writing.

As quoted by Ruth Smith of RTE Radio 1 and Limerick folk songstress Emma Langford, Katie shows us her genuine song writing and vocal talent whilst highlighting her performance abilities as a very worthy Irish singer-songwriter on the scene right now.

She is a very mature lyricist and melody maker, keenly noted on her tracks Man On A Mission, Catch Me If You Can, Need, Let Me Know, Aphra’s Song, Blue, Home Farm and Never Go Home to name but a few. Her words are uniquely inspired, like previous contributions from heroic craftswomen Joni Mitchell and Carole King.  Her airs carry elements of Suzanne Vega and Wallis Bird combining warmth, drive and humour into every chord she delivers from her infamous red guitar. She’s very perceptive with her audience and knows how to improvise with her set lists to please any set of ears.

As her mentor, I’ve been to her gigs over this past year and to say she has raised the bar on each occasion would be an understatement.  I can see the performing artist that she wants to be and I’ll never tire of watching and listening to her, in her most humble abode that is a live stage.  She is an intuitive character and performs so honestly and passionately, whilst growing into an outstanding live acoustic musician in the process.

This appeal as a live performer has become her forte.  Her delivery of her own back catalogue mixed with a few invited covers reflects her magnetic personality and musicianship.   Katie has an innate quality of making an intimate space feel bigger and she is such a charismatic and engaging entertainer with an amazing future ahead of her. Recently signed to Movement Records in Longford, Katie is currently working on her debut album due for release in the coming months.

“We close with a singer-songwriter I’ve heard many plaudits of over the last 12 months, and was curious to hear recorded, Katie Gallagher‘s ‘Man On A Mission‘ was released just yesterday and it’s quite an ambitious mixture. Gallagher swoops relentlessly across the tracks almost 4 minutes, from film score to jazz club moods via piano, her warm, assertive yet soothing voice and a calypso-country combo, there’s a lot happening, and it leaves a positive mark.”

Kildare folk-rock artist and fellow Pure M 2018 Nominee Peco is Katie’s special guest for this acoustic night of music in Foleys on the 5th July.

Having previously toured all over Ireland, the UK, the USA and Canada as the front man of Valentine Black and now as a solo artist in his own right, Peco has become quite the veteran on the Irish music scene.   He released his debut single Safe Haven in 2016 and that same year he was a finalist in both the USA Songwriting Competition and The International Acoustic Music Awards.  He has twice reached the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting contest with his songs Retrospect and Love OceansRetrospect also featured on the US TV show Roadtrip Nation

Quite simply, his songs are poetic musicals.

Self Help – A Beginner’s Guide from his recent debut EP And So I Arrived At The Start has been described as an art/folk rock fusion, tipping its hat to 80’s Talking Heads new wave era and folk stalwart Bob Dylan, to whom Peco has been likened to by many industry insiders in Ireland and internationally.

Also among his impressive catalogue of tracks to date are Grace Isn’t Easy, Queen of Chaos, One For Sorrow, Harbour Master and Monster, which are continuing to receive regional and national airplay on stations here in Ireland and further afield.

Peco also completed two successful Irish and UK tours in 2016, including a performance at the reputable Edinburgh Folk Club in Scotland.

As a firm admirer of his for some time, I appreciate that he has and continues to put in the hard graft required for this business as a band front man and a solo artist.  Formidable and appealing as a live performer his audiences show him respect and the feeling is mutual.  Peco is a steadfast, consistent and reliable live act, either with his band or flying solo, which is why this joint acoustic appearance with Katie Gallagher will be a superior display of his raw talent.

Upcoming appearances include BARE Music & Arts Festival, Borris House, Carlow, Main Stage Sat 7th July and The Secret Village, Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon Fri 10th August.

Peco is currently working on his debut album planned for an early 2019 release.

With so many singer/songwriters on the circuit it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. There’s one sure way however to give your music a warm glow of charm, integrity and individuality, something that Irish artist Peco McLoughlin has down already. Peco’s debut EP offers an insightful snapshot of this assured and talented songwriter.”
