SCOOPS

Stephen ‘Scoops’ Cooper – Lead Vocal, Guitar

Stephen O’Rourke – Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals

Kevin Murphy – Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals

Scoops himself is a Dublin born singer songwriter who was honing his craft for a number of years, gigging relentlessly all over the country. Stephen O’Rourke originally from Waterford Ireland made the move from his home to Dublin in late 2014 to join Scoops and they began to tour as a two-piece playing original music. It was then in early 2016 that Kevin Murphy joined to finalise the line up of Scoops and they began working on their debut EP.

Scoops as a band then spent 6 months building up to their Debut EP release and since then a lot has happened for the Dublin 3 piece. “Scenes of Joy” the Debut EP charted number 2 in the Overall Irish iTunes Album Charts, second only to the chart topping Adele.

They have graced stages all over Ireland, the UK, Denmark, Sweden and Germany included in that their own headline tour of Ireland and Denmark.  Not one to rest the band continued packing everything into there first 6 months as a band in 2015 and played a number of Irish University and Institute of Technology headline shows for the students of Ireland. Not only that but they supported and toured with the likes of Walking on Cars, Hudson Taylor, Hermitage Green, The Academic and Keywest.

2016 started with a SOLD OUT Debut EP Launch night in Dublin’s Iconic Whelan’s live venue on Wexford Street.  Not only this but Scoops were given the honors of closing out the prestigious “One To Watch 2016” Festival as they returned from their January dates in Denmark, the country where arguably Scoops have had the most success.

With “Best of You” the lead track from the debut EP getting regular radio airplay on many of Irelands major regional stations such as Beat 102-103, Radio Kerry, KFM, Highland Radio, Shannonside Radio, Classic Hits 4FM, Dublin City FM and many more, things really have started to move for the band.

I haven’t written any reviews for a while now, but after attending The Grand Social in Dublin last Saturday 19th November, I had to put fingers to laptop and inform the world about the phenomenon that is new Irish trio ‘Scoops’. These guys arrived on stage and meant business, you just had to be there.  From the first chord to the last beat of the kickdrum pedal, this was serious.  Their energy was immediate and present to the very end.  These guys were ready, all guns blazing, organised, prepared professionals and you could tell, they were very experienced.  I felt so comfortable and welcomed into their soiree of pure rock n roll fun and feeling.

Before they appeared I noticed the stage set up which had the drums to the left (our right) and up front.  I prefer this set up because you get a better feel of the chemistry and coordination going on between the members of a band and it gives each of them an equal profile.
To say they are great crowd pleasers would be an understatement.  We were in the palm of their hands.  The buzz in The Grand Social was never so heightened than in all the times I’ve been there before.  Stephen Cooper, lead vocalist is both a formidable and engaging frontman.  I hope he knows how good he is.  His honest and humourous tales of where the songs came from to inviting us to partake in a somewhat wobbly mannequin challenge protrayed a guy and his band who wanted to entertain and leave us with an unforgettable memory.  And they did!
They have been a trio now for almost a year and their debut EP ‘Scenes of Joy’ is a testament to their talents and craftsmenship.  ‘Best of You’ their current single was very well received and adored by the fans, plus a very credible Justin Bieber cover was also added to the set list.  Just to mention as well that they have a CD of originals and covers entitled ‘The YouTube Sessions’ which is for sale only at their gigs.  This is also a worthy purchase.
Scoops have a new fan and I can see their potential for further success.  They have done the good graft to get where they are now and it shows.  After their Irish dates listed above they’ll be heading back to tour Europe in the new year.
Thank you Scoops for an amazing gig and I look forward to many more. You have my respect.  To everyone else, you just have to be there.
